Inside the cabin I immediately sensed a time and place that once welcomed me home.
Out in the door yard I stepped onto a boulder jutting south toward the mountain. The whistle of a White-throated Sparrow rode a breeze that carried springtime pine and earthy notes from the surrounding woods and stream. Turning back toward the cabin I checked my step off the huge rock and noticed its distinct heart shape.
A friend once told how she discovered a small heart shaped rock at her side during a particularly low point of her loss and that it helped connect with her spirit. Later I started noticing heart rocks while on mindless jaunts around the country so I started collecting them for meditation prompts. For a few years, each find held an intention toward the change I was then forced to make following the loss of all things I knew my life to be.
